On a beautifully warm summer Sunday, 24 June 2018, invited dignitaries and Wiltshire Mayors, community groups and our local parishioners joined Town Mayor Lisa Farrell and Town Councillors in a service of celebration led by Rev. Canon Andrew Studdert-Kennedy at St Mary's Church. Dr Janneke Blokland, Assistant Chaplain at Marlborough College and students from our local schools took part in the service with a song - 'Genies and Rainbows' from Preshute Primary School Choir, a reading by Ellie Slater, Head Girl of St John's Academy with student Frankie Griest playing a piano piece, Marlborough St Mary's choir's rendition of 'Why We Sing' and pupils reading a prayer.
The congregation and guests were then invited back to the Town Hall to see a display put on by the schools and Marlborough College showing how education has changed over the years, with some fascinating pictures and documents loaned by Rob and Angie Dickens looking back at the history of education in Marlborough. Refreshments and some fabulous cakes were provided by Sandra Bull and her wonderful team from Macmillan Cancer Support. Our thanks go to everyone who helped make this such a memorable event.
