The Town Council and Action for the River Kennet (ARK) jointly own Stonebridge Meadow, a wonderful piece of open space on the eastern edge of town. Cllr Don Heath sits on the Management Committee which oversees the day to day running of the meadow and spent some time on Monday, 23 July taking part in a River School with Marlborough St Mary's. He and his wife led the bird watching element of it where pupils used new children's binoculars and bird bingo sheets to identify various species. Did you know that 76 different species have been recorded there?
Find out more about ARK's activities here - and if you'd like to get involved there's a moth night on Friday 27 July.

Thanks go to Marlborough Cricket Club for hosting this annual event. Credit goes to our Mayor who opened the batting, our Captain, Cllr Mark Cooper, his team of cricketers including soldiers from the 4th Military Intelligence Battalion as well as Charlie Bawden (the first woman cricketer to represent Marlborough College's First XI). They all helped to put in a good performance on Wednesday, 18th July in a very competitive match which saw the hosts team winning by less than 20 runs. Congratulations go to Marlborough CC, winners of the trophy. A great evening and so good too that the event, raised money for the Fatboy's Charity, a small local charity helping children with cancer.

Our thanks to Marlborough St Mary's for inviting us to hold our consultation at the school on Wednesday 18 July, and especially to all of you who came along and gave us your comments. We're all set to have the new play area in place in October.
On Tuesday, 17 July, our Mayor, Lisa Farrell, popped along to Preshute School together with the Chairman of Marlborough in Bloom, Steve Pascall. They were there to present the winners of the In Bloom Art Competition with their prizes kindly donated by The White Horse Bookshop. The Mayor spent time chatting with pupils and teachers and admiring the rain collection project which also was part of this year’s South West in Bloom campaign and visited by RHS judge, Su Maddocks, last week. Well done to all entrants of the art competition - their masterpieces, all based on the theme of ‘Birds’, can still be seen in the window of the former Lighting of Distinction shop in the High Street. What talented children we have in Marlborough.

There's an opportunity for you to take a look at the proposals for the upgrade to the play area for Coopers Meadow on Wednesday 18 July between 4-5.30pm at Marlborough St Mary's Primary School
There was a real feeling of "everyone's a winner" in the Town Hall on the afternoon of Tuesday, 10 July at the end of a glorious day that really helped show our lovely town off at it's best to the RHS judges. There was cake - thank you Waitrose! - awards for the Henry George Garden competition entrants, help from the extended family with Cathy and Pat Weatherly and Jenny Pascall behind the cake table, a rendition of 'happy birthday' to our Mayor led by MiB chairman Steve Pascall, and we even managed to film the BBC film crew, caught on camera with Anna Forbes and Val Compton, IYN entrants and MiB stalwarts... and Geoffrey the Otter. Well done everyone - now for the long wait until October when the awards will be announced.
On Tuesday morning, 10 July, we welcomed RHS South West in Bloom judges Martin Abrahams and Su Maddocks to Marlborough. There's more than ever for them to see this year, and we wish Marlborough in Bloom the very best of luck in the competition.
(L-R: MiB Chairman Steve Pascall, Town Clerk Shelley Parker, RHS judge Sue Maddocks, Town Mayor Cllr. Lisa Farrell, Grounds Manager Nigel Weatherly, RHS judge Martin Abrahams and Bloomers Anne Crawley, Val Compton and Anna Forbes)
We're happy to say that the sheep are back for the summer. They'll need a day or two to get used to their new pasture but we hope ewe wool drop by and say hello!
