A Fitting Farewell for Rev. Canon Andrew Studdert-Kennedy

Andrew Studdert-Kennedy and Mayor Lisa Farrell

At the Full Town Council meeting held on Monday 10 September, Town Mayor Cllr. Lisa Farrell presented a painting of St Mary's Church by local artist Colin Palmer to Rev. Canon Andrew Studdert-Kennedy as a fitting token to mark the appreciation of the Town Council and the community for all he has done during his time in Marlborough. Andrew, Team Rector for Marlborough's Anglican Team, has played a prominent role in our community for 16 years and last year was honoured by being appointed as a Chaplain to The Queen.

We wish him well as he moves on to Uxbridge. He will take his last service at St Mary's at 10am on Sunday 23 September.

30 Years of Meetings on Record

minute-books-2

Since the local government reorganisation in 1974, most of the Town Council’s meeting minutes were in folders in storage in Swindon. Our Councillors took the decision that these should be accessible to everyone and kept in the proper conditions suitable for historic documents, and in February this year the loose leaf minutes were bound and sent to the Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre in Chippenham for all to see, joining the Marlborough  Borough Council Minute Books, going back more than 100 years.

We've now made some of those more recent minutes available online - click here to access the minutes of ALL our meetings going back to 1988.  And if you don't recognise the two past Mayors pictured below, all will be revealed as we've added the name and a photo to show who was Town Mayor for each of the years listed.

Setting a Good Example

ufa-litter-pick-collage

A big thank you to young people from the University of the First Age who have been clearing litter in our open spaces throughout the town.  They borrowed litter picking equipment and HiViz jackets from us and listened to H&S advice from our Grounds Manager then set to work.  This is all towards their National Citizen Service Awards.  What a great example to us all.

Best Wishes for a Happy Retirement

Dr-Hazlewood-capJonathan Leigh

The Town Council passes its very best wishes to Dr Patrick Hazelwood, former Head at St John’s and Chief Executive Officer at the Excalibur Academies Trust and Jonathan Leigh, Master at Marlborough College.  Both are retiring this summer and both have made a significant impact on education in the town.  Presentations of prints of the Town Hall were made to both to mark their contributions to Marlborough and its community.
