Plume of Feathers advances forward!

L-R: The Richmond Fellowship Team Tricia Print, Richard Dallimore, Albert Lucas, Nathan Jenkyn, Nick Riley with Nigel Weatherly (Marlborough Town Council) and Steve Pascall

Marlborough in Bloom’s Chairman designate, Steve Pascall and the Town Council’s newly appointed Grounds Manager, Nigel Weatherly, were on hand to congratulate hard working members of the Richmond Fellowship who were awarded an Advancing award in the recent RHS South West in Bloomcompetition. The Fellowship works with those with mental health problems and is part of the group of charities, Recovery Focus, working towards making individual recovery a reality. It leases the beautiful Plume of Feathers Garden for a peppercorn rent from the Town Council. The garden sits just off Plume of Feathers Lane behind London Road which, thanks to the Fellowship’s efforts, has become a real oasis in the middle of Marlborough. Very well done to everyone involved.

Remembrance Commemorations

On Remembrance Sunday people from Marlborough and beyond turned out in great numbers despite the cold weather to take part in Marlborough's traditional Remembrance Sunday Parade. Following an inspection in the High Street Phoenix Brass led the march to the New Road War Memorial for all to pay their respects to those who lost their lives in war.

Marlborough also paused at 11 o'clock on Saturday, 11th November to respect a two minute silence for Armistice Day, followed by the laying of wreaths at the 7th Battalion Wiltshire Regiment Memorial. More photographs of the two events can be found in our gallery.

Wiltshire Council needs to develop a new waste management strategy in order to shape how it collects and manages household waste and recycling in Wiltshire in the next 10 years.
It is carrying out a public consultation in order to ensure that the strategy is representative of Wiltshire residents’ opinions, which is open until 14th November. Read more and have your say...

This year Armistice Day falls on Saturday, 11th November and Remembrance Sunday on 12th November.
Each year Marlborough commemorates both events with a small ceremony on Armistice Day and a Parade on Remembrance Sunday.
This will involve some disruption to traffic and temporary road closures. For full details of the events and road closures please click here.

Housing Needs in the Marlborough Area

From consultation undertaken as part of work on the Marlborough Area Neighbourhood Plan, it was clear that affordable housing was a major concern to those living in Marlborough, Mildenhall, Preshute and Savernake. To follow this up with robust evidence, a Housing Needs Survey was undertaken and a report issued. The independent consultants commissioned to undertake this work will be coming to Marlborough to give their feedback and analysis of the report as well as the results of an associated survey about business and employment.  Everyone is invited to hear this at a public meeting at the Town Hall on Tuesday, 24th October at 7pm. There’ll be a chance to ask questions and hear about how the Neighbourhood Plan will try to address some of these housing issues.

The report is available on the Neighbourhood Plan website.

Lions are our Pride!

lions cheque 4

Just ahead of our Planning Committee meeting on Monday, 9th October, Mrs Debbie Wilson, Vice-President of Marlborough’s Lions Club, handed over a cheque to our Mayor for £1,000 towards the refurbishment project at the Marlborough Community & Youth Centre. We are delighted with this generous contribution and our thanks go to the Lions and their members. Things are progressing well at the Centre but we now need money to equip the building, please let us know if you would like to contribute to this great community project. Read more...
