Marlborough’s Christmas Lights Switch On – Friday, 21st November 2014
Friday, 21st November - Great Lights Switch-On. Great turnout. Great night. Thank you to everyone who made it work so well - Rotary, Lions, our Neighbourhood Policing Team, Marlborough Communities Market, the Town Council, St John’s Ambulance, Marlborough Academy of Music and Dance, local schools, Wiltshire Council and more. The man of the moment – Citizen of the Year 2014, Alfie Johnson, our long serving and popular Town Crier who has volunteered tirelessly for our community for many, many years.
A chance to learn more about Marlborough’s beautiful, historic Old Cemetery in Frees Avenue with archaeologist, Kim Wakeham, on Sunday, 30th November at 10am. Then stay on to help with the restoration work.
A proud day for the town with hundreds following the Parade in the High Street to the New Road War Memorial to pay their respects to those who lost their lives in war. Marlborough will not forget.
Lots came to pay their respects around the Town Hall today for the 2 minutes silence at 
The weather smiled on HRH The Duke of Kent as he unveiled a plaque to commemorate the centenary of the First World War. A fitting tribute to all those from Marlborough who lost their lives between 1914-1918. A wonderful day for Marlborough to remember. 
Marlborough was a major prize winner at the South West in Bloom awards ceremony on 18th September at the Civic Centre in Trowbridge. With entries from all over the South West, the competition was high. Marlborough won a Silver Gilt award, a Category Winner’s Cup, the Best New Entry Trophy, the Best Community Initiative Cup (Marlborough Community Orchard) and was also short listed for the best non municipal gardens (Marlborough College) and best municipal gardens (Wye House). Well done to the Marlborough in Bloom Committee, our many volunteers and businesses, the Town Council staff and Grounds Team, Wiltshire Council, our sponsors and all those residents who worked hard to make the town look its best.
