VACANCY - TOWN COUNCILLOR - MARLBOROUGH WEST WARD

Following the resignation of Peter Morgan on 28 May, we have a vacancy for a Town Councillor in the West Ward, which includes Manton.  We published the notice of vacancy on 5 June.

On 29 June the Returning Officer confirmed that there was not a request for an election, and so the vacancy will be filled by co-option.

If you would like to apply please download the application pack.  PDF version   |   Word version

Please contact the Town Clerk, Richard Spencer-Williams, if you would like to discuss the vacancy.  Paper packs are available from our office at 5 High Street, and available on request by post.

Applications must be returned before 4pm on Friday, 21 August.  Co-option will take place following presentations by candidates at a Full Town Council meeting on the evening of Monday, 7 September 2026.

WHAT'S INVOLVED IN BEING A COUNCILLOR?

Town Councillors are volunteers, so are not paid.  Most tell us they became Councillors because they wanted to put something back into the town that they love.  Councillors ensure the services provided by the Town Council are efficient and cost effective.  They plan town events, and work together on projects or issues to help improve the town for its residents and visitors.

You can hear some of Marlborough's Councillors explain more in their own words in our video.

There is more information about becoming a Councillor available here: https://www.local.gov.uk/be-councillor/becoming-councillor-0

If you'd like to know more about the services provided by the Town Council, please read the reports of our last 4-year council term and civic events on our Annual Reports page.
