The Jubilee Field

The Jubilee Field is at Bridge Street, Manton, between the bridge over the River Kennet and the Outside Chance public house.

Bordered on one side by the River Kennet, the Jubilee Field is a riverside open space just under 2 acres in total with benches, play equipment for children up to 12 years old, football goalposts and adult exercise equipment. Dogs are welcome in the field but not in the children's playground.

As well as recreation, the field has played host in the past to a duck race, a balloon race, school fund raisers and summer fayres among other events. If you would like to discuss holding an event here please get in touch..

In 1930 the land was sold to Mrs Ethel Mary Dominy with an annual tithe of five shillings per acre. Mrs Dominy made a declaration of trust to create charitable status for the land in 1936 and upon her death in 1952 the Mayor and Aldermen of the Borough of Marlborough were appointed as trustees.

Plenty of Joy at Jubilee Field

On Wednesday, 2 September 2020 our Town Mayor, Councillor Mark Cooper, cut the ribbon to officially open an exciting new play area at Jubilee Field, Manton. Abiding by COVID social distancing restrictions, children took turns to test out the swings, slide, agility trail, rope climber, fortress, basketball hoop and more whilst adults lined up to try the fitness equipment too.

For the last three years, a group of young professional mothers, collectively known as Manton Community Outdoors, have worked hard fundraising towards this new facility which benefits all ages. They collaborated with the Town Council, Manton Residents Association, local people and Preshute School to make sure that this fantastic facility was right for the whole village.

Dragon Play & Sports, based in Cardiff, supplied the equipment and Project Manager, Michael Carter of Sports & Play Consulting, guided the project through to completion.

Costs of just under £66,500 have been met via grants and contributions from a range of organisations and generous local people. These include:

 Our Mayor, himself a resident of Manton, said: “What an amazing achievement by Manton Community Outdoors. It’s been great to work with such an inspiring group, all working so hard to make it happen. I remember playing here as a child, how much more it has to offer now. There’s something for everyone and the play equipment reflects the natural environment so Jubilee Field still retains its reputation as a wonderful green open space.”

Katie Tilney, one of the fundraisers, said: “Manton Community Outdoors is absolutely thrilled with the final result and that such a wide age range appear to be enjoying the facilities. We are extremely grateful for all the encouragement over the three years and especially to the vast number of contributors.”
