Heritage Morning
Groups come togetherMarlborough Heritage Networking Morning took place on Saturday morning, the first such event that brought together 9 heritage organisations that operate in and around Marlborough.
Organised by The Merchant's House and Marlborough Town Council, they were joined by Wiltshire Agricultural Preservation Group, Marlborough History Society, St Peter's and St Paul's Marlborough Trust, Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre, Crofton Beam Engines, Wonky Toys with Pelham Puppets and the Marlborough Victorian Cemetery group.
Artefacts held by the Town Council were on display in the Council Chamber, allowing access to parts of the Town Hall not always seen. A film from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire & Rescue showed the history of fires in the High Street, with visitors recognising familiar faces of the towns fire crews over the years.
Volunteers from The Merchant's House were asking visitors and participants two important questions; 'Which part of Marlborough's history matters to you most?' and 'Which voices from Marlborough's past deserve to be heard?'. The ideas put forward are all interesting, with a theme emerging of local trades and tradespeople.
The event presented a unique opportunity for everyone interested in promoting and preserving the towns heritage to speak together, sharing plans and ambitions.
Jo Patrick, Heritage Trustee at The Merchant's House said 'this was an excellent opportunity for everyone with an enthusiasm for protecting the towns history to collaborate, and will certainly help The Merchant's House plan activities for new exhibitions and partnerships'.
