Marlborough Mop
The Showmen's Guild returned to Marlborough High Street with the Little Mop Fair on Saturday, 8 October
Under beautiful blue skies the Town Mayor, Councillor Lisa Farrell, was invited by Showmen's Guild President Tommy Charles and Billy Whitelegg to open this year's Mop Fair. She thanked them not just for the longstanding traditional fair that means so much to children (young and old!) of the town, but for all they do for others that often goes unnoticed.
The Town Crier, Mike Tupman, entreated all to have fun and to leave peacably in his traditional shout, ending with "God Save The King". And then the fair was open, and ride owners generously offered free rides to the children who accompanied the Mayor as she walked the length of the High Street. Big Mop will be back on Saturday 15 October - the fun starts at midday.
