The Merchants House
The Merchants House shop remains open. Visits, events and tours are postponed.
On behalf of The Merchant's House Trust, we'd like to share with you that the planned Open Day on 26 March has been postponed. All other visits, events and tours have also been been postponed. If you have already purchased tickets for upcoming Jazz events you will be contacted directly.
The trustees of The Merchant’s House have agreed to only allow public access to the shop and to temporarily close the rest of the house. The decision came after an inspection by the Trust’s consultant architect and structural engineer identified recent movement in the Great Staircase which lies at the heart of the 17th century property.
Alison Galvin-Wright, Chair of the Board of Trustees, said “We are very sorry to anyone who had planned to visit the House in the next few weeks. As a matter of urgency we have asked for a report on the condition of the whole house to be prepared. Meanwhile, our wonderful gift shop remains open for business.
