Paid in full - in peppercorns
Special ceremony marks 30 years of The Merchants House.
On Tuesday, 5 October the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Mrs Sarah Rose Troughton CStJ and husband Mr Peter Troughton, were guests of honour at an event in Marlborough Town Hall hosted by The Merchants House.
It was time for the Merchants House Trust to pay their annual rent to Marlborough Town Council for the building, and they were a year in arrears due to the pandemic. Alison Galvin-Wright, Chair of the Trustees handed over a ceremonial bag of peppercorns to our Mayor, Councillor Mark Cooper to pay in full, witnessed by the Lord Lieutenant, Trustees, Councillors, Mr & Mrs Bayly and guests.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Merchants House Trust but, after standing in the High Street for nearly 370 years this iconic 17th century building is in need of repair. If you would like to support the 30th Anniversary Appeal which is aiming to raise £150,000 please read more here.
