Battle of Marlborough

The Civil War Re-enactment on the Common and the Living History display in Priory Gardens were successful events and were well received in the town.  It was wonderful to see so many of the re-enactors out  in costume on the High Street, transporting us back to the 17th century.  Our thanks go to the English Civil War Society for staging such a magnificent event and to those who helped support it - Wiltshire Council, Hills and Marlborough History Society.   A gallery of photos will soon be posted on this website.

Battle of Marlborough – 26/27 July on The Common

2 soldiers

The battle lines will be drawn, the troops will be mustered and the Battle of Marlborough will commence on the town’s Common over the weekend of 26/27July.  The Town Council is working with the English Civil War Society to stage a re-enactment of the civil war battle which will recreate the events of 1642 on the original site of the action.  Read more

Living History

Living HistoryThe weekend will also be a chance to learn more about how the townspeople and families of Marlborough lived in the 17th century.  A variety of craftsmen and traders such as carpenters, scribes, physicians, cheese-makers and more will be at this event which will take place in Priory Gardens just off the High Street.  A chance to ask about their skills, look at their clothing and watch meals being prepared  - all taking us back in time.
