Friends of the Victorian Cemetery
The Friends of the Victorian Cemetery was set up in 2014 by then-Deputy Mayor, Councillor Margaret Rose. From then and through 2015 a small, enthusiastic group of volunteers, supported by Marlborough Town Council's Grounds & Estates Manager Richard Beale, met on the second Sunday of every month to clear vegetation, prune shrubs, plant wildflowers and have a general tidy-up.
For the second year running Cllr Rose, who was Town Mayor for 2015-16, was hoping the judges for South West in Bloom would be impressed. The environment improved all the time and the volunteers planted wild flowers such as primroses and foxgloves. And the judges were impressed! The Victorian Cemetery was awarded a 'Thriving' certificate in the 'It's Your Neighbourhood' category in 2015.
The Friends are still going, so if you'd like to get involved or would like more information please contact Cllr. Rose directly.
