Your new Councillor

Welcome back, Councillor Pitts

Richard Pitts took up his seat as a Town Councillor for West Ward on Tuesday, 15 September, marking his return to the council he previously served from 2007 to 2013.

Co-opted at the Full Council meeting on 7 September, Rich is ready to bring his extensive experience in project management, community resilience, and environmental sustainability to the Town Council for the remainder of the current 4-year term.  Originally an ecologist he moved into IT which resulted in a 28-year Career at Oracle Corporation, where he served as a Senior Principal Architect, but his true passion has always been rooted in the Marlborough community.  Following his previous tenure, which was defined by tangible results whilst Chair of Open Spaces to fund new play areas and the teenager-led skate park, Rich returned to community service as a permaculture design specialist and Core Group Secretary for Transition Marlborough.

Rich is eager to drive progress in four key areas that are critical for Marlborough’s future: river and climate resilience, revitalizing town markets, supporting local arts and culture and community food security.

He describes his understanding of the Councillor role as a partnership with the community, requiring a "deep reverence for the over 4,000 years of human history that has shaped our distinctive downs and environs." He brings a dual vision: addressing immediate concerns with empathy while remaining mindful of future generations.

His professional background in complex project management, combined with his current visiting fellowships at the University of Reading (Bee taxonomy) and University of Essex (AI techniques for river data analysis), positions him well to contribute towards the council’s challenges.

Please join us in welcoming Councillor Richard Pitts to the Marlborough Town Council. More information about your Town Council, including Councillor contact information, our services, our calendar of meetings and more is available from our Council pages.
