Scouting USA
On Thursday, 20 February, our Mayor was delighted to welcome a party of 12 people representing Scouting USA from Marlborough, Massachusetts. He gave them a guided tour around the Town Hall and told them about its history which included a trip into the cells in the basement and a chance to sit in his chair in the Council Chamber!
This was all part of a tradition of scouting exchange visits between the two Marlboroughs dating back more than 20 years. In 2018, a group of Rangers from Marlborough UK visited Marlborough Mass. and were able to spend time with Mayor Arthur G. Vigeant at his office in the city and our Mayor has now had a chance to return that hospitality. During their time in the Town Hall, our visitors spotted proclamation certificates and gifts from the USA including a tablecloth in the Mayor’s Parlour.
Local District Commissioner, Wendy Beattie, said “ This has been another successful exchange, one that also took in London and Paris but, most importantly, Marlborough UK. This time our visitors were able to look at our special town from the top of St Peter’s Tower as well as getting a welcome from our Mayor. These visits have led to lifelong connections not just for scouting, but between families at home and in the USA too .”
The 2018 visit to Marlborough Mass. was helped by a grant from the Town Council.
