The Recreation Ground

Rec panorama

The Recreation Ground is a large open space with amenities including two football pitches, a skate park and a children's play area with equipment to suit all ages from the very young through to a zipwire and other equipment for more adventurous, older kids. You'll also find Marlborough Bowls Club here, alongside our own Town Council workshops and the Marlborough Community & Youth Centre (taken over from Wiltshire Council in 2017).

Occasional community events are held here - most recently a MCYP Fun Day on 28th August 2016.

Did you know:

The land was originally part of the grounds belonging to Coombe End House, and the family gifted the land to Borough?

The gates and railings at the Salisbury Road entrance were a gift from the Royal British Legion in 1953 to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II?

The skatepark cost £75,000, opened in 2010, and was the result of a community campaign backed by National Lottery funding?

There are three entrances to the Recreation Ground. The main entrance is via Salisbury Road (near the pelican crossing). There is also access from St Margarets Mead and via a set of steps from Priorsfield. The best access for wheelchairs is via the Salisbury Road entrance. Well behaved dogs are welcome. No public conveniences. A small amount of car parking is available. Click here for location map.
