
Traffic consultation
Extending the 40MPH limit at Manton HollowIn support of residents of Manton and Manton Hollow the Town Council has been working with Wiltshire Council Highways to investigate a number of road and pedestrian safety improvements at the A4, Bath Road.
A proposal to extend the 40MPH for a distance of 52 metres so that it goes beyond the turning for Downs Lane has been agreed with Wiltshire Council, which is now consulting on the proposal.
The consultation will be available for people to respond and comment athttps://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/troconsultations from 6 June until 1 July.

THE COUNTY OF WILTSHIRE (A4 BATH ROAD, MANTON, MARLBOROUGH) (40MPH SPEED LIMIT) ORDER 2024
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT Wiltshire Council proposes to make the above Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which will be to revoke The Trunk Roads. (40mph Speed Limit) (No.8) Order 1964 and re-enact it in the above Order and to introduce a 40mph speed limit on the following length of road:
A4 Bath Road, Manton, Marlborough – from a point 234 metres west of its junction with College Fields to a point 52 metres west of its junction with Downs Lane
Reason: For avoiding danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road or for preventing the likelihood of any such danger arising.
The request for the proposals came from Marlborough Town Council due to concern of pedestrian safety and the speed of traffic along the A4.
Copies of the draft Order, plans and Statement of the Council’s Reasons for proposing to make the Order may be inspected at the offices of Wiltshire Council, County Hall, Bythesea Road, Trowbridge during normal office hours. Details of the proposed scheme may be seen at Marlborough Library, 91 High Street SN8 1HD between the hours of 2pm to 7pm Monday, 9.30am to 5pm Wednesday and Friday, 9.30am to 7pm Thursday and 9.30am to 1pm Saturday until 1st July 2024.
