Marlborough Mop

A man wearing a ceremonial robe sits in the car of a fairground rideThe Little Mop returns to Marlborough.

On Saturday, 9 October our Mayor and Town Crier were invited by Billy Whitelegg of the Showmen's Guild to open the Mop Fair.

After the usual proclamation from Town Crier Mike Tupman, Town Mayor Councillor Mark Cooper followed in the footsteps of his father, former Mayor Maurice Cooper, to welcome this much loved-event back to the town.  President of the Showmen's Guild Western Section, Tommy Charles, was pleased to be back after a difficult period for everyone.

By tradition, children present at the opening had the opportunity to enjoy free rides along with the Mayor, who was also joined on the Sizzler by Mace Bearers Barry Mercer and Bob Dobie.
If you missed it, don't forget 'Big Mop' will return on Saturday 16 October 2021.
