The Young and the Young at Heart Benefit from Town Council Grants
14th October 2016
This week our Mayor presented cheques to two local, very worthy organisations - the Jubilee Centre and Manton Pre-School. Under the Town Council's Small Grants Scheme, these funds are awarded to local community and voluntary groups working towards benefitting their communities.
On Monday, 10th October, the Mayor went along to the Jubilee Centre in the High Street, a drop-in centre for older people, to hand over a cheque for £1,116 to the leader of the centre, dynamic Carole Walker and her hard working team. The money will be used for providing afternoon entertainment - various speakers, a visit by the Mobile History Museum, Music for Health sessions and more.
The next day, it was a visit to the Pre-School in Manton where the Mayor met staff, committee members and their delightful pupils. This successful Pre-School has been running for over 40 years and is based in the Village Hall. The award of £300, which was handed over to Trish Salisbury and Amy Nelson, will help to buy toys, an outside chalkboard, cars and aprons for this busy group of young children.
All community groups and volunteer organisations are encouraged to apply for funds from this scheme to help with small projects and activities which benefit Marlborough. There are still funds remaining for 2016/17 and if you know of any group which might benefit, please let them know about it. More information about eligibility and an application form can be found here.
