Civic Reception
Our Mayor wasn't daunted by the date when, on Friday, 13 August 2021, he held a reception at the Town Hall for invited guests who included dignitaries, representatives from local charities, community groups and organisations, past Mayors, Councillors, family and friends.
Normally this reception would follow the annual Mayor Making ceremony. Earlier this year, on 17 May, Councillor Mark Cooper was elected as Town Mayor by fellow Councillors but social distancing and other Coronavirus restrictions in place at the time meant it wasn't possible for him to invite guests.
The Mayor's father, Maurice Cooper and himself a former Mayor, was remembered at the start of the evening and then, with windows open for fresh air, Coronavirus check-ins and hand sanitiser freely available, guests were delighted to be able to meet and to catch up while enjoying a delicious buffet provided by The Lamb Inn.
The Mayor's chosen charities are Friends of Savernake Hospital, Motor Neurone Disease Association and Marlborough Area Poverty Action Group.
