Platinum Jubilee Open Session

Tuesday 18 January 2022, 07:00pm - 08:00pm

How should Marlborough celebrate this historic occasion?

In 2022 the May Bank Holiday weekend will be moved to Thursday 2 June and an additional Bank Holiday on Friday 3 June will see a four-day weekend to celebrate HM Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee between 2-5 June 2022

Communities across the nation, UK Overseas Territories and the Commonwealth are participating in beacon lighting in recognition of the Queen’s long and selfless service, and we’re also planning commemorative tree planting.  Now we’d like to know what your thoughts are on how else our town should celebrate and commemorate the occasion.

Would you like to see a picnic or tea party on Marlborough Common to lead up to the lighting of the beacon, perhaps with organised games?  Cultural events?  Fun ways for kids to get involved?  Neighbourhood events?  School or community group activities?  Exhibitions of memorabilia of Marlborough during the Queen’s long reign?

We’d like to help capture all your brilliant ideas and put the right people together who can make it happen, creating a joined up programme for the town.

To kick this off we’re holding an open session in the Town Hall on Tuesday, 18 January at 7pm.  It will only take an hour but will be a great opportunity to gather together all your ideas and perhaps form a group of people to start pulling the plans together.

The event will be run in accordance with Covid guidance at the time, and may be rescheduled if the guidance changes.  Please keep an eye on our website and social media nearer the time.
