Groundwater flooding

Community Briefing

We have received a briefing from the Environment Agency today:

"As of 3 February, there are currently 32 of the 35 groundwater Flood Warnings in force across the Dorset and Wiltshire area.

We continue to see widespread groundwater flooding across the Dorset and Wiltshire area.  Unlike river flooding, groundwater flooding can persist for weeks or even months as water slowly drains into the chalk and limestone aquifers beneath the ground causing the water table to rise.  Groundwater levels are at or near record highs, matching or exceeding 2013/14 levels."

It is a detailed briefing and you can read it here. The document highlights areas currently affected: Marlborough is not one of them.

However it is a very timely reminder about being prepared.  It contains links to all relevant agencies as well as some useful actions and advice for owners of properties at risk or flooding.

At the time of writing, the flood dashboard for Marlborough shows two alerts but no flood warnings.

More information can be found on the Flood dashboard and our Flooding page where you can also download our flooding advice leaflet.
