Welcome Councillor Kim Wakeham
Meet your new Town CouncillorKim was co-opted at an Extraordinary Full Council meeting on 10 November, and formally took up her seat on Tuesday, 18 November when she met Town Clerk Richard Spencer-Williams to sign her Declaration of Acceptance of Office as a Marlborough Town Councillor for the East Ward.
Born and raised in Marlborough, Kim is very community minded. Many of you may recognise her - perhaps from the Merchant’s House, History Society, Community Fridge, primary school or out litter-picking. With a career based around children, young adults, community and heritage, Kim brings valuable experience to the Town Council as an Archaeologist who has worked in the heritage sector and is currently studying for a MSc in Cultural Heritage Management. She is aware of the issues the Town Council is already discussing such as the lack of social and affordable housing for local families. She told us that she put herself forward because she felt she could draw on her skills and experience to serve the community and work with others to make a positive contribution to the people who live in or visit Marlborough.
May 2025 saw the start of a new 4-year council term for Marlborough. As fewer than 16 people put their names forward there was no election for the Town Council: 14 candidates were confirmed and 2 vacant seats remained. The vacancies were advertised to be filled by co-option. On 7 July Councillor Nicholas Awbery was co-opted to the Marlborough West vacant seat, and Kim’s appointment completes our 16-person Town Council for the remainder of this term.
