Oyez!
Town Crier Emma Kimber is a winnerWe're thrilled to announce that Emma won the Wessex Association Chamber of Commerce 'Wiltshire Town Criers Cup' on Saturday, 19 July against some very stiff competition. Well done Emma!
Here are her winning shouts:
Marlborough started with a Mound;
62ft high in College grounds.
Where mythical Merlin rests his head,
Or at least, that’s what the legend says.
Savernake Forest was the playground of Kings,
Now full of adventure, a modern life brings.
1653 Marlborough lit like a match,
So, Parliament banned us from roofing with thatch.
Our town was rebuilt from the ashes and flames,
Our wide High Street, filled with Mop fairs and games.
Cafés now bloom beneath Tudor beams
And next to The High Street, the Kennet stream gleams.
The Merchants House, with historic painted walls
And Footsteps creaking through timber halls.
A church and Town Hall stand proud at each end
Guardians to greet all our visitors and friends.
GOD SAVE THE KING!
OYEZ OYEZ OYEZ
On Wiltshire hills, where shadows splay
Silent guardians, greet each day.
Bold and majestic against green grass
Etched in chalk and made to last.
Carved with passion by human hands
They gleam in splendour, on ancient lands
Of Druids and Kings, and circles of stone
Eight white horses, each standing alone.
Originally thirteen, some long ago lost
Those that remain, stand proud and aloft.
Watching each sun rise, and each day depart
Part of the landscape and Wiltshire’s heart.
GOD SAVE THE KING!
This follows on from 2016 when, after only a few weeks in the role, her predecessor Mike Tupman MBE made a magnificent start when he won the title of Wiltshire’s Champion Town Crier at a competition at Bowood House (pictured below, 5th from left)
