Updated Tuesday 9 January

{Play}Removal of flood damaged items

On Tuesday 9 January we will be delivering leaflets to residents at properties where we believe flood water may have entered their home.

The leaflet explains that to help people who have large items that are damaged, contaminated and unable to be retained (carpets, furniture, appliances etc), we have contacted Wiltshire Council’s waste team who have arranged for their contractors to visit affected areas and remove large items.

We walked the town to identify areas where items have already been placed outside properties and the collection route is based on that.  If your area is not listed but you have water damaged large items to be removed, please let us know.  For example, we've seen comments about River Park on social media, but could see no evidence of soiled items outside properties there when we visited this morning.

Once you have checked with your insurers that the items can be disposed of, please place large items outside the property clearly visible but without obstructing traffic or pedestrians and grouped as close together as you can manage.  As there may be limited space in the trucks for the large amount of material to be removed from the town, please focus on bulky items that would be difficult for you to dispose of yourself.  Residents can take smaller items to the Household Recycling Centre.

Collections will start on Wednesday 10 January from

London Road | Wagon Yard | Harley Court | The Parade | Kennet Place | Kennet Mews | Culvermead Close

At this stage we don’t know which areas will be covered on Wednesday and which will be later so please don’t worry if your waste isn’t collected straight away.

Please share this information with any neighbours who may have been flooded. We hope that we’ve delivered our leaflet to all properties that may have been affected but just in case we’ve missed anyone, please spread the word and let us know if your area is not listed.

Large Item Collection And household recycling centres

Wiltshire Council offers a service to remove large items. Details about what type of items can be removed are listed at https://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/large-item-collection, or call 0300 456 0102. If you believe the items have been contaminated by sewage, please let them know as it may need to be handled as hazardous waste. There is a charge for this service.

Information about what you can take to Household Recycling Centres can be found at https://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/rubbish-and-recycling

Flood Warnings

If you haven’t already done so, you can sign up to receive flood warning alerts from the Environment Agency.  Details about how to do this, along with advice on preparing for flooding, what to do during a flood and how to get support after a flood can all be found at https://www.gov.uk/sign-up-for-flood-warnings.  You can also register by calling Floodline on 0345 988 1188.

We know how upsetting it is to be affected by flooding.  If you need any advice please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.  We may not have the service that you need ourselves but we will do our best to offer advice and put you in touch with partner services that can help.
