Happy Birthday Your Majesty
A Holm Oak to honour HRH Charles IIIThe week of 13 November has seen celebrations across the Commonwealth for the King's 75th birthday.
Earlier in 2023 while making plans for the King's Coronation it was agreed to plant a tree in his honour. As the autumn is a better time than summer to plant a tree the King's birthday, 14 November, was chosen as the planting date. Poor weather delayed our plans by a day but on Wednesday, 15 November our Mayor, Councillor Nicholas Fogg, joined Grounds Manager Nigel Weatherly and Town Clerk Richard Spencer-Williams to plant a Holm Oak at the Victorian Cemetery on Marlborough Common.

The tree was chosen to replace a mature Holm Oak that was lost during storms in 2022. The old tree wasn't wasted. After felling, we cut it into chunks and offered the wood to residents who we hope will have made good use of it. If you were one of them, and have created something from it, we'd love to hear from you.
