Housing in Minal
Q: Why are there no proposed housing sites in mildenhall?
On consultation, some people in Minal felt that there should be more affordable housing in the parish to enable local families to live there. The response to the call for sites, where landowners were asked if they had land available for housing and other community facilities, did include offers from landowners in Minal, and these sites were reviewed. However, in late 2019 Wiltshire Council confirmed that their policy was to refuse planning approval for additional market value housing in parishes. The only way that affordable housing could be built was following the Rural Exception Site Scheme, in which a site with affordable housing only could be provided. However the Neighbourhood Plan cannot include rural exception sites, so these must be followed up by the individual parish councils. The Minal Parish Council has agreed to pursue this option.
