Mayor's Blog - Cllr. Lisa Farrell

January to May 2019 - a snapshot (too many to mention!)

26 January - Farewell to Carole Walker at the Jubilee Centre

blogcarolewalker

An absolute pleasure to be able to attend and say farewell to Carole, an amazing lady, who has worked tirelessly for the Jubilee Centre and made it the success it is today

19 February - Presentation to Marlborough youth football club

MYFC

The Town Council was successful in applying for funding from the Tesco Bags of Help Scheme and used the award of £1,000 towards equipment for Marlborough Youth Football Club which now uses the Marlborough Community & Youth Centre building as its base at the Recreation Ground. The grant paid for new goalposts, changing room benches and hooks plus a tactical magnetic whiteboard. Eight teams (around 100 players) will benefit from all of this. So good to see Marlborough Youth Football Club go from strength to strength

27 February - ShowmEn's guild lunch

blogsonshowman

Such a lovely annual lunch spent with members of the Showmen's Guild who are fantastic hosts. Fabulous food and great entertainment. I was delighted to be able to present the Showmen's Guild with a newly signed agreement to allow the Mop Fairs to continue for the next 25 years

28 February - bob pelham blue plaque unveiling

the-plaqueunveiled

I was delighted to unveil this blue plaque, a fitting tribute to Bob Pelham who played a hugely important part in Marlborough's history. Many of Marlborough's residents will remember the importance of Pelham Puppets to the town and may well have grown up playing with the internationally famous puppets and will have their own personal favourites. A great afternoon

1 March - raising the flag for commonwealth day

Myself and Town Councillors joined many across the globe to celebrate the vast diversity and strong unity of Commonwealth Day. 11 March 2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of The Commonwealth - a proud moment

14 march - town council visit to 4mI bulford

A fantastic, informative and well organised visit to 4MI Bulford. A very enjoyable day and I certainly learned a lot

24 March - lions club boundary walk of marlborough

lions-walk

A lovely event, in its second year now and thankfully the weather was kind! I had the pleasure of starting the walk and watching everyone set off on the 12-mile walk around Marlborough's town boundary

1 april - police patrol

Policecrestpngresized

A fantastic opportunity to go out on patrol with our local Police. A great experience, one which I hope I will be able to repeat

7 april - great british spring clean

A very productive - if not a little bit exhausting - afternoon spent collecting litter along the Salisbury Road up to Tesco with lots of lovely volunteers who gave up their Sunday afternoon to do good in the community. Bags and bags of rubbish collected, good teamwork!

9 may - peppercorn rent ceremony at the merchant's house

images of the merchants house

The annual tithe (bag of peppercorns) is paid by The Merchant's House Trust to the Town Council for rent of the building. Drinks and nibbles rounded off this tradition

13 may - opening of new dental practice

blogdentist

This was my very last engagement as Town Mayor, and it gave me great pleasure to open this long awaited practice. This is a ground-up practice and has been developed in partnership with NHS England as part of their programme to place practices in areas of high dental need
