Cheque Presentations

cheque-collageAt the start of the Full Town Council meeting in the Town Hall on Monday, 21 January, our Mayor, Cllr. Lisa Farrell, was delighted to present a cheque to David Brown, Vice Chair of the Marlborough Branch of Royal British Legion. The cheque - for £440 - was the proceeds from the Roll of Honour tribute event held over the Remembrance weekend in November 2018. In the centenary year of the end of World War 1 it was very fitting that the proceeds should go to the RBL, which plays an important part in supporting the town's commemorations every year.

There were also two cheques raised from the Waitrose Community Matters fund - where shoppers choose which collection box will get their green token in the local branch. Ian Burdekin, the Branch Manager, handed over a cheque for £342 raised to help towards the costs of staging the Christmas Lights switch-on event. Lisa Wakeham, the Community Lead for the scheme, then presented a cheque for £250 - this one for the Mayor's Fund. The Mayor expressed her heartfelt thanks to David and Lisa, acknowledging the consistent support from Waitrose for many community causes in the town - and to all those who dropped their green discs into the box.

The Mayor's Fund represents the charities chosen each year by our Town Mayor.  Cllr. Lisa Farrell has chosen to support seven charities in her mayoral year. They are: The Jubilee Centre, Macmillan, Kennet Community Transport, New Road Day Centre, Preshute and Marlborough St Mary's Schools, and The Findlay Foundation.
