2018 Remembrance Events

11 November 2018 marks the centenary of the end of the Great War (1914-1918). There are a number of events taking place in Marlborough to commemorate 100 years since the Armistice and we've listed a selection here. If you have a commemorative event taking place and would like us to add it, please let us know.

More permanent commemorations include streets on the new Salisbury Road development to be named after local people who served, and a commemorative wood to be planted on the Common.

Four years ago in 2014, to mark 100 years since war was declared, the Duke of Kent unveiled a plaque on the town's war memorial.  Read more here...

A series of events, lectures and concerts celebrating the reopening of the Hall and bringing to a close the College's four years of commemorative First World War events

A Wilfred Owen evening of poems and letters at the Town Hall

The procession leaves the Marlborough Community & Youth Centre at midday, to process to the Memorial to lay wreaths at 12:10pm

Cycle ride to commemorate the 100 years of the Armistice and raise funds for Royal British Legion

 Saturday 10 November, 7pm: Roll of Honour
A tribute to the people of Marlborough at the Town Hall.  Hear about the part they played and a roll call of the names of the fallen. With wine & light refreshments, there will also be an exhibition of photographs and memorabilia and a live performance of songs from the era

   Sunday 11 November, 10am: Remembrance Parade in the High Street

The parade will form up in the High Street from 10am then at 10:45 march to the war memorial for the 11am observance, followed by a service at St Mary's Church
