The Ridgeway Hackpen Hill - geograph.org.uk - 701835Walks in and around the town: there are interesting alleyways, footpaths and open spaces to explore (see the Town Guide for a town centre map). If you'd like to follow a structured walk, try the blue plaque trail or pop into the White Horse Bookshop on the High Street to pick up local historian David Chandler's book 'Place Names of Marlborough' which lists eight walks around the town together with maps - from just over a mile exploring alleyways to 2 hour walks incorporating town, villages and countryside. The book shop also has a variety of other local maps and books, such as walks incorporating coffee shops and pubs. For history buffs, you might be interested in the Marlborough Tank Island War Walk, about two miles around the town, produced by the Kennet Valley at War Trust and available for download.

Other walking and cycling routes and ideas: VisitWiltshire, The Old Railway Path linking Marlborough to Chiseldon and Coate Water in Swindon, Monthly organised walks on the Marlborough Downs, The Ridgeway, North Wessex Downs AONB suggested walks, Pewsey Vale Trail, Wilton Windmill Circular Walk, on and off-road cycle trails. Connecting Wiltshire has some good cycle maps, or try South West Adventure Cycle MapGet Wiltshire Walking's "Marlborough Walk Fit" group has a regular starting time every week. Marlborough Leisure Centre is open to all, with a swimming pool, gym, sports hall and more.

For golfers, Marlborough Golf Club on The Common welcomes visitors, as does the club at Ogbourne Downs which is just a short drive north of town.

The town also has a variety of sport and leisure activities and clubs including bowlsamateur boxingcricket, football, hockey, horse-riding, rugbyand tennis.
